Advice sought. August 4, 2013 6:17 pm bowser

It used to be that one had to get a new computer every few years because the programs got bigger and bigger, and more memory and RAM was necessary and the CPUs needed to be faster.  That doesn’t seem to be an issue any more for the casual user.

However, my desktop is about 5 years old and completely cluttered up.  Junked up.  More little programs and parts of programs and stuff everywhere, and I’m not sure what to do.

I could buy a new hard drive, I have space for one, but I don’t know how to download just the programs and what I want out of the old thing.  I could buy a new hard drive and load Linux onto it, but my attempts at loading Linux have consistently failed.  I could attempt to cull the crap out of this thing, but there’s more crap and not all of it shows up on the program list.

Any good words of advice?
