		<description>A thing that stuck me reading the chart is the common references to the God fearing framers and their intent for the nation to be governed by Christian principles.

I can&#039;t say what was in their minds but I do know that a good percentage of the framers (including Jefferson and Franklin) were well known to be Deists. A Deist proclaims a belief in a creator who has zero interest in humanity. 

Deist is about as close to an Atheist that an 18th century politician could get. Two centuries later we have probably gone backwards. I would like to see how a proclaimed Deist would do in a national election today</description>
