Later, he called Henry and begged him to not reveal that he had seen seen him crying and drunk. Kissinger, of course, made it a point to betray that very human confidence, and for absolutely no good reason whatsoever reveal the information to Bob Woodward so everyone could read all about it. I was standing in front of an equipment rack when the studio cut over to Nixon. I remember standing there, quite still, watching the needle on the compressor bounce as Nixon spoke, stunned by the gravity of actually hearing the President of the United States resign, after all those years of Watergate and Vietnam and Nixon as Sauron incarnate.
