Is there any doubt expressed in that article about exactly why the Democrats are doing this? Do the Democrats in Illinois, home of Chicago politics and the political crucible of our president, have a “sense of entitlement?” Do they think they deserve total power? Or is it all okay because Democrats are “righteous” and the Republicans are “evil?”

You’re right, gerrymandering is thoroughly bipartisan, and older than Babylon.
But it used to be something that both parties did semi-secretly, cloaked in euphemism and misdirection, behind closed doors when no one was looking. What made this case so special is the meticulously documented and totally shameless court brief, and the total abandonment of even a little white lie or a lame excuse for disenfranchising a significant proportion of the population. You don’t give a shit who knows, do you? The only people likely to object aren’t going to vote for you anyway, so who cares what they think? Stealing elections isn’t a shady back room deal any more. It is done right out in the sunlight, you guys feel no shame any more. You seem to have this sense of entitlement. If you can get away with it, fine, because you DESERVE it. You are, after all, exceptional.

This just in! Redistricting is used by political parties to gain advantage over the opposing party!

The procedure was first used when Patrick Henry tried to redraw a district to deny a seat to James Madison. Former Black Panther Bobby Rush, after an unsuccessful 2000 primary challenge from Barack Obama, retaliated by helping reconstruct a new set of district lines that literally ejected the small area around Obama’s house from his district. Bobby Rush is still in the House, and will be until he quits or dies.

Prior to 2010, Democrats controlled 60 of 99 state chambers, with control of both chambers in 27 states (Republicans controlled 14, 8 were divided, and Nebraska is “non-partisan.”) Not surprisingly, both parties had redrawn districts to their own advantage after the previous census, with twice as many Democratic-controlled states as Republican ones. Crickets.

After the November 2010 election, Republicans controlled 25 states, Democrats 16, and the remainder split or nonpartisan. (The idiot over there about to open his mouth is invited to note that this was prior to the 2011 redistricting.)

Not surprisingly, after 2010, partisan redistricting, a technique that had been a time-honored way of preserving power in both red and blue states, has suddenly been labeled by liberals as a “corrupt scheme designed to undermine democracy.”
