The heavy plastic case in which the Kel-Tec PF9 came closes with two slides on the top.

There is a hole in each one suitable for a padlock. Since I have a 3 1/2 year old living upstairs now, she would have to cut the case or unlock two locks to get at it.

Clever solution, I thought.

Did a little Google search and it looks like these are what they call "safety" bullets? They're used in areas like inside an apartment building because they don't travel through walls very well. And as you noted, it's also been recommend for Air marshals.

About 10 years ago, the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Talon" rel="nofollow">"Black Talon"</a> round was all the rage. Frangible in a sense I guess. They were taken off the market and the understanding was- because they were too lethal. The reality is, it was a marketing decision due to the public notoriety gained by it's use in a few "mass" shootings.

I don't even like to think about shooting someone. In my opinion if someone feels the need for a firearm in their home, they should get one. But learn how to use and care for it, then find a place in the home where it's inaccessible to children and others. Put it in that place and forget about it. Hopefully the only time you'll see it is on a nice sunny day when you feel like doing some target shooting.

I don't agree with blanket banning of all firearms, but you have to draw the line somewhere. Those who say there's no obvious place to draw one, so there shouldn't be any at all, must be (in principle) OK with private ownership of Stinger and Tow missiles, .50 cal machine guns, artillery, or anything else that could be loosely described or defined as a firearm. That way lies madness, as we have seen in this country.

But this is America, and not everything is what it seems on the surface. There is most definitly a subtext at work here, one which most do not want to even think about...

I've been raised with guns, had unrestricted access to .22s and fields and farms starting at age 10. The military wasn't as instructive as it might have been, mostly what they did. And my anti-gun stance now is modified.

I think a person should be allowed A handgun and full-sized rifles in his own home and on his own property. I believe a person should be allowed a handgun and rifles in their own car, on licensed shooting ranges and while hunting.

That's it. No handguns on their person off their property, no rifles except on their way a legitimate place to use them.

No full-auto. No magazine over 8 rounds.

Anyone caught with a weapon off of their own property would immediately go to prison for 1 month. Second violation, 3 months, third 6 months. No exceptions.

NRA membership would be treated as the equivalent of KKK membership, which it resembles.

Maybe the liberals who own and know about firearms are aware of their dangers the way medical professionals are aware of the dangers of narcotics. Just because someone wants them doesn't mean they should have them.

And the problem isn't most people. The problem is the people who most want them, the people who don't perceive themselves as effective or competent if they aren't armed. Those are the scary folks. And the folks who want assault rifles, large magazines, and so on. They are just plain weak, inadequate, hollow, pathetic cretins.

...that the liberal anti-gun faction on this forum seems at least as knowledgeable and informed on firearms as the 2nd Amendment contingent? TB, for example, even seems reluctant to use a BB gun as a non-lethal defense against raccoon home invasion.

Of course, the liberal anti-gun faction actually has had professional exposure to firearms in their military service.
