We've been so busy solving the world's problems here on the Zone... August 26, 2013 1:30 pm ER

…that we neglected to notice that we will probably be at war with Syria, perhaps in just hours.

There are good reasons to do so, and also very good reasons not to, But its all a moot point now. The Syrians have called Obama’s “red-line” bluff, and he has seen their call and raised the bet. I think the President’s decision has already been made–to go in, unless something really extraordinary happens.

Four DDGs are now in the Eastern med, each carrying a few dozen Tomahawk cruise missiles tipped with ground-attack warheads. No doubt we have other assets there we are not publicizing; in fact, I wouldn’t doubt there have been some Tomahawk-equipped submarines quietly on station there as well for some time now, and probably more on the way.

Congress has been unusually quiet, too, trying to determine how to exploit these events politically, no doubt. Stand by for heavy rolls.
