From the right angle? Yeah.

Move a foot or two either way, and it flickers out. I'm still voting for alcaray's idea as the most plausible.

And the white knight is talking backwards
And the red queen's off with her head
Remember what the dormouse said
Feed your head, feed your head"

Logic and proportion certainly have fallen in that picture. Good one.

Sun glint.

Like all spiderwebs, you can only see part of it when the light hits it from a certain angle, and I can't move around to different sides easily. What's in the photo is what I could see. So I'm not sure how much further up it goes, or whether or not there's a crosspiece above as Alcaray suggests.

The orb spiders here can run lines across remarkable distances between two objects, particularly ones I walk between in the morning. I'm not sure how they do it, although there are several plausible methods

Some species of spiders use them to travel.

They climb into a tall spot, release a long thread into the wind. and then just let go of their perch. Some have been collected in the stratosphere. That's how some species have been able to colonize tall mountain ranges, or oceanic islands.

It doesn't look like this one is in a wind, though. It looks like a still day and its rising straight upLike a skyhook.

Could you determine how high it went, or did it just go out of sight? And how were you able to photograph it? Is that the sun glinting off it?
