Want to say something about Ireland, and the implications for state-controlled health care?

You just don’t want to deal with the complexities.

You don’t know shit about the Australian system, which is not single-payer, any more than you know shit about the systems in any other nation you talk about. No two countries are alike who have government paying for some or most of their citizens’ medical care, including ours, where the government pays for over half of it right now.

You don’t know the profit margins for health insurance companies, what percentage of the whole system is non-profit, or what the main drivers of high costs in the U.S. are.

But hey, that’s not “knowledge.” That’s just “information.”

If I thought you’d bother, I’d tell you to review the actual history of this legislation. It was dragged desperately across the finish line, bleeding, with flies landing on it. It got through the Supreme Court by one vote from someone who should have known better. I notice you overlooked the 2010 elections.

This country is dying of stupidity and ignorance. I have kids I have to teach to deal with it.

Now, to briefly address the stupidest meme out there for justifying shutting up the opposition. I see it everywhere.

It was passed by both Houses, signed by the President, and confirmed by the Supreme Court. It is the law.

As was the Fugitive Slave Law. So? Bush’s election was approved by the Supreme Court. And? The Bush Tax cuts passed and were signed into law. Did Democrats sit down and say, “well, I guess that’s that.”

Shit, do Democrats faced with legislation they don’t like EVER sit down and say, “well, I guess that’s that.” Democrats who don’t get their way in the legislative process fight to the death. Every time.

“Reasonable opposition” to a Democrat means someone who never actually, you know, opposes what the Democrats do.

Because there aren’t any, there have never been any, and you have been very careful to avoid even describing what one might look like. The only examples, or “facts”, you can come up with are from Heinlein and Rand.

You know who Heinlein and Rand are, don’t you? Science fiction writers who specialized in fantasies for adolescents with military and entrepreneurial delusions.

Abortion is illegal in Ireland. In other nations too, that have state health care, but that’s the outstanding first-world example.

Try to imagine your totally government-controlled health care system. Now imagine it with Republicans holding down Congress and the presidency. What would happen then?

Do liberals have any problems with, say, Ireland’s health care system?

Any idiot should have seen where I was going with that. None of them did.

Of course, no liberal is capable of visualizing his ideal, all-powerful state under the control of anybody else except someone who thinks exactly like him. In fact, there are lots of things they don’t seem to be able to visualize.

Ignorance is held up as a badge of honor, information is declared to have nothing to do with knowledge, and it’s painfully obvious you don’t even research or think through what you’re writing, much less what anyone else writes.

Every response in one of these back-and-forths contains at least two more chunks of crap that would have to be dealt with, and it’s like dealing with the neutrons in a chain reaction.
