post is not published. Seems like all you would need to do is accelerate the initial save and frequency. Obviously doesn’t work for replies but maybe the same mechanism could be used.

Thanks for removing the clock, was going to bring it up several weeks ago, before the flood.

Other housekeeping: thinking ’bout opening up registration again; see how that goes, spam-wise.

Would still like to open the Space Board to open commenting, perhaps with moderator approval? (And community approval) I see lots of switches here in the boiler room, but I’ll be damned if I can figure them out. Besides, the command center of Hacienda del Pod is still a construction zone, exposed studs and foundation, need to run some new cables (cat-3, cat-5, coax, maybe some A/V stuff) as long as I’ve got the walls open, before I relearn drywall 101, replace the baseboards, texture, paint, plane some doors…

I poked around, and found that “Recent posts” wasn’t always correctly configured to sort by modification/comment time instead of creation time. While fixing that on Space, I removed the Curiosity clock. It’s been a year and a half.

One thing to keep in mind is that Community posts only show up on Community, so updating this thread here only bumps it up here; the Recent posts list on other boards will be unaffected.

I can scan all the new comments without having to click on each post. The Recent column is great, especially for detecting spam posts (which show up as a blank space.)

I don’t need a tab up top for I have the UnCat page on my browsers toolbar.

But it is how I usually read the Zone.

It’s configured to sort by modification time (not creation), and modification includes posting of comments. It seems to me to be behaving as expected, even though it seems inconsistent at times.

It doesn’t highlight which comments are new, but that’s a separate function that involves the browser tracking your history.

I’m not sure I understand what “uncategorized” brings to the table that we’re not already getting.

Liked it at first, but now I only use it for moderation purposes.

Now I keep track of current activity by visiting http://www.habitablezone.com/category/uncategorized/. This shows all the HZ threads from all the boards at once, newly commented ones up top. Sure, it sorta makes all the different boards irrelevant, but it is how I keep track of what’s new with one click.
