Did I ever tell you I jumped out of a perfectly good airplane back in ’83? Yup, with a bunch of coworkers. I remember the panic just starting to take over my brain as I sat in the hatch looking down, when the jumpmaster gave me a shove and I was falling to my death. For maybe a second which seemed like an hour, then I felt the cords from the inflated canopy pull me upright. And then I could glory in finding myself floating through the air at 3,000 feet, late afternoon sun lighting the landscape with a golden patina…I just yelled and yelled with the sheer joy of it.

If you feel that spark again, go for it. You won’t regret it.

When I see my daughters doing it (the oldest and the youngest have jumped) and Bush the elder doing it, I feel a spark to try it, but it goes away pretty quick.
