The problem is obviously the easy access to rock and roll music, via evil transistor radios.

But if you compare what people write in forums (associated with these stories) today with what they wrote to the editor back in the old days, you will see that the readers are a different animal. And in fact they mirror the nihilism expressed in the stories. Something has changed people.

The old comics that were objectionable...

were mainly the EC publisher that did "Tales From The Crypt" et al.

They were edgy but nothing compared to the slice and slash media today.

I tend to doubt that media creates monsters that wouldn't have been otherwise, but I could be totally wrong. Best for me to stand and watch with my opinion being nothing more than just that.

I am not an anime fan and I am unfamiliar with Gantz. It is hard for me to imagine the anime style molding anyone's personality.

As I said above that's just me.

...is where they seem to take place in an alternate universe where people have exactly 0 morals. Where it is quite normal to lie, cheat, steal, murder, rape or whatever, as long as you can get away with it. And bystanders do not raise an eyebrow except where their personal involvement might be threatened. Or where bystanders might have an interest in watching what takes place only for their amusement. And the consumers don't raise an eyebrow, either.

Now I hate being preached to, when I'm trying to be amused. So I do not recommend that the Christian Family Council start writing comics and cartoons and video games. On the other hand, you could make a case that the media I described above is preaching a bit too.

I really don't think they portrayed a nihilistic society in those golden age/silver age comics. Or if they did, it was clear that these bad actors were not normal folk. They do it a lot now.

I never had anything against them, I especially liked the horror and SF sub-genres. I enjoyed them as a kid, and occasionally I read a contemporary "graphic novel" and enjoy it too. The art is excellent, and the stories are mythic, stylized (not that there's anything wrong with that, so is Homer). But I just never developed the intense attraction for them so many people seem to have.

And watching movies derived from comix seems to short-circuit the whole point of the art form, what makes them unique in the first place: the graphic communication and verbal economy of the medium.
