I hope you are feeling better soon. On the bright side, it's good it happened before Obamacare went into effect.

Do your crunches, B. Even if it's just a matter of lifting and lowering you head while catching a bit of TV. This simple exercise will make a huge difference over the next few months.

Cheers to you and yours.

...the trainees are poking people in the arm, hoping to someday move on to the important work.

But first, they gotta find that damned vein.

I can imagine what you are going through, pain is something that all of us feel at some time or another.
Some of us must bear more pain than others, and looking at it from a philosophical view point, there is physical pain and there is non physical pain. The physical pain can be suppressed to some degree with drugs, but the non physical is more difficult to suppress.
I had minor surgery (hernia) a few weeks ago, survived it with very little pain, the worst pain was when the nurses had trouble finding a vein to put the i.v. into, they stuck me with needles several times before they succeeded in their efforts.
One thing the nurses here need to learn is how to insert the needle into a vein. I visited a older acquaintance of mine who was in a hospital because he had fallen and hit his head on a table.
When I got there, there were three nurses trying to insert the iv needle to hydrate him, they must have poked him more than two dozen times and still did not get the needle in the right spot. I think the nurses are lucky that he does not speak very much English and that he is a christian gentleman.

And Bowser, I enjoy reading your comment here on HZ.
Give yourself time to heal and keep us updated on your happenings.

I know it's painful to type, so thank you for taking the time to reassure us. We've all been worried about you, bowser.

I can relate to a small degree. Back in '83 I went in for an appendectomy, and there were complications in the form of a surgical infection. Like you, my intestinal system shut down, and they had to drain my stomach constantly via a tube up my nose and down my throat. Also had a tube in my side draining pus into a bag. Every couple of days they'd give me a barium enema and xray me to see if anything had changed. The demerol shots were the high point of my day.

It took almost two weeks before my system relaxed and went back to work. I have never appreciated a dump so much in my life as that first one. So you have that to look forward to, bowser. Somewhat less pleasant was the removal of the drain tube from my nose. The surgeon put a hand on my forehead like a faith healer, and gave a mighty yank. "Praise the Lord you have been healed!" he didn't say, but he could have. I sure saw stars. But I was happy to be rid of the tube.

You will get better, bowser. I know that time drags and relief always seems to be just out of reach when you're in the middle of it. But there will come a day when your body resumes working and the tubes come out. Endure. And don't be too proud to press the painkiller button. It's not the pain that makes us stronger, it's the surviving.

Apologies, can't get into a position to type. It's very difficult. Have had complications from the surgery, bladder spasms, which pull, tug and other wise work over the stitches, blood clots which block or stress the drainage tubes, surprisingly painful and the biggest one now, the one which is keeping me in the hospital (without food) is the fact that my intestinal system hasn't started up again. Intestinal cramps are long acting and really get and keep my attention. Stomach fluids don't drain down, those built up to where quarts and quarts of them have been pulled out via pump or some other way. Am walking around well, could leave if only the digestive system would fire up.
Thanks very much for all the well wishes, they mean a lot. Gotta go.

Do you have family there with you? Support will prove essential. Know that you already have that here, but you will be in need of physical assistance, once you get out of hospital.

You have here our hopes for a speedy recovery, and the return of your razor repartee. Come back to us, Bowser. Adversity makes for a -- stronger web site.
