I am speaking for myself only. What is MY truth.
My truth is indeed an illusion for anyone else. I can not expect anyone to follow what I believe is right.

I am a true loner. I do not make a good friend in the societal sense. I will never be thin. This was a biggie for me to really comprehend. It would permeate my self worth.
I will die.
I will do anything for children and animals. However, when it so happens that I will not be able to, I must deal with my limitations and the gut wrenching reality that I simply could not. It was in the *try*.

I am lazy as hell about exercise.

It is coming to terms with who we really are, and who we are not...and making peace with that. Accepting ourselves for we are...warts and all. MY awakening to imperfection. Taking off the rose colored glasses to see all that is for what it is.

When philosophers keep trying to reconstruct the concepts of truth and reality...

You're probably dealing with someone who has a lot invested in the alternatives.

To further explain and give you the answer you deserved:

First, it is difficult to read feelings on an internet forum. If the words had been your own, I would have been serious, whether I agreed or not.

Your introductory remark "Yep", posted on the off topic board, I took as kind of an offhand remark that might even have been sarcastic. If you had followed the quote with a comment that it has had an important impact on your feelings, I would have been inclined to post a serious response. Maybe if you had posted on Community I might have "got it", but maybe not

Lacking cues I needed, I resorted to my frequent inclination to respond with sarcasm that I intend to be humorous and never insulting.

Anyway...

I agree with Pod that the quote is not profound but there is nothing wrong with it's message.

It boils down to this, Truth is what it is, until it isn't. Truth is important to me but I am willing to recognize what is, when what was is proven to be untrue.

It is my belief that truth becomes malleable when faith enters the equation. When faith is involved truth is "truly" only a matter of perception.

Since "reality" is also malleable there is probably nothing wrong with that. It just doesn't fit my version of "reality".

Oh and,

References to a greater truth do not resonate with me. Truth is Truth, there is no greater or lesser truth. It can not be quantified.

...where the kindly old priest tells off the wise-cracking atheist asshole with some pithy, but reverent Bible verse, and the skeptic gets this "oh, he really got me on that one", look on his face, and the choir starts singing in the background as they roll the credits.

I'm afraid not. I've looked into the face of god often enough, and take my word for it, he's a soulless butcher.
I'll take my chances with the storm any time.

Delighted you sense the Zen. There's a dash of Tao, base note of indoctrinated Catholic, top note of New Age silliness. Practitioner of what ever gets me through the night.

There are things I know I'll never know. I like to think about them.

That's my koan.

I'm cool with that.

I've had the carpet pulled out from under me, fucking literally, and fair bit of drywall to boot. Had different plans for autumn, I did.
