Nuclear war is probably not winnable and to have a chance of winning, you'd have to target missile sites and it would be kinda hard to assemble your bomb next to one.

<blockquote>
There are any number of Muslim terrorist groups that hate us enough to nuke a city or two.
</blockquote>

Scary. Hopefully suicide bombings don't scale to countries.

Their motivations were political and not religious, (yeah I know some said communism was a religion for them). They also knew that any such attack would be blamed on them, at least and probably outright traced to them. Then it was odds on to start a nuclear war.

As volatile as our relationship was, I think they wanted to win fair and square, by burying us as we wound up burying them. They damn sure did not want a nuclear exchange with us after their agony in WWII.

My fear has been the loss of control over fissionable material after the fall of the USSR. There are any number of Muslim terrorist groups that hate us enough to nuke a city or two.

I suspect that the only thing that has stopped them is the fear that the US under martial law might declare total war and start nuking the holy places. They invented death by a thousand cuts and they probably prefer it.

Domestic terrorists are probably quite willing to do it but they might not have the connections needed yet.

<a href="http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2013/08/will-iran-get-a-bomb-or-be-bombed-itself-this-year/278253/" rel="nofollow">"Will Iran Get a Bomb—or Be Bombed Itself—This Year?"</a>

I've always wondered why the USSR didn't ship bomb components to the US and assemble them in US cities. Hope Iran doesn't get the same idea- crossing the Mexico or Canadian boarder wouldn't be that difficult.

An interesting one is that if we "loan" money to Israel, the US will make the payments if Israel doesn't. That's why they have never defaulted - they can't.

Another is that if Israel is attacked the US will come to her aid. All Israel has to do is provoke an attack or make it seem as if she has been attacked and the US is obliged to go to war.

The US may not have a problem with Iran's army, but the aftermath would be bloody. After all, Iraq is now a dictatorship without much love for the US and we'd have to stage some military things from there. Or try Afghanistan, with it's impossible logistics.

I want to be clear that I am done with foreign wars.

Just for conversation's sake, I don't see Iran as any particular hill to climb for the US in concert with Israel.

Iran and Iraq fought to a standstill and we dealt with the military part of Iraq in weeks. I understand they were weakened by Kuwait, but unless Iran has all those "WMD" that never showed up and doesn't mind using them around the Middle East, the US and Israel would destroy Iran's air force and bomb them into submission with a low casualty rate. The only boots on the ground would likely only be Israel's.

With Israel handling the clean up it might even be easier than Iraq.

I am of course wrong if China chooses to fight for Iran, (Russia will not imo), but Israel or not, I can't see us in such a war without knowing exactly where they stand.

Israel will not be happy until it can provoke a war with Iran which the US will fund and fight. Unfortunately, treaty obligations to Israel guarantee the US can and will be sucked into such a conflagration. It would be a much larger affair than the war in Iraq.

Whatever that can be done to avoid that is worth it, including letting Iran have the bomb. After all, Israel is the rogue nation, attacking whomever in the neighborhood she feels like with impunity, because of the hold she has on the US which prevents retaliation.

<blockquote>On Tuesday, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard news agency FARS released a statement from the Foreign Ministry denouncing the version of the Iranian nuclear deal released by the Obama administration on Sunday. “What has been released by the website of the White House as a fact sheet is a one-sided interpretation of the agreed text in Geneva and some of the explanations and words in the sheet contradict the text of the Joint Plan of Action (the title of the Iran-powers deal), and this fact sheet has unfortunately been translated and released in the name of the Geneva agreement by certain media, which is not true,” said Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham.</blockquote>

Doesn't surprise me, it's been 4 years of deceit.

<a href="http://eeas.europa.eu/statements/docs/2013/131124_03_en.pdf" rel="nofollow">Here</a> is the PDF of the Joint Plan of Action.

The statement from Iran might have to do with the Elements of a first step clause. Obama might have to revise the fact sheet to show good faith.

It all depends upon how you spin it out to the world.

Looks like a nice first step, for Iran to find a major place in the global market -- as a future nuclear power.

<blockquote>The United States released $8 billion in frozen assets to Iran on Sunday in a move meant to ensure Tehran's compliance with a nuclear agreement signed over the weekend, say top Iranian officials, the Washington Free Beacon reported Monday.

Iranian government spokesman Mohammad Baqer Nobakht confirmed Monday that the U.S. government freed $8 billion in assets that had been blocked by the Obama administration.

In addition, Iran will get about $7 billion in sanctions relief, gold, and oil sales under the nuclear deal that was signed in Geneva with Western nations over the weekend.</blockquote>

<a href="http://www.newsmax.com/newswidget/US-Iran-8-billion-assets/2013/11/25/id/538632?promo_code=11102-1&utm_source=11102Real_Clear_Politics&utm_medium=nmwidget&utm_campaign=widgetphase1#ixzz2llE9ei2j " rel="nofollow">Newsmax</a>

Billions of dollars for the Iranians and not one of the prisoner released. That's some kind of deal Obama has negotiated that he couldn't demand that even 1 of the pastors in jail for being a Christian be released. It should have been the first thing on the list of demands, but I guess it shows how he thinks of Americans overseas and his record of rescuing them.

Since some sanctions are lifted you can bet some shady deals will be made among hungry suppliers and buyers.
Another thing Iran got was an advocate in the White House. Just imagine Obama conceding that the deal isn't working so well down the road.
