This one is an Acer that sells on Amazon for $199. For another $25 you get an HDMI port. Based on the 3 usb ports I would assume you could hook up some external stuff. An external dvd is a listed accessory. The HDMI cable would let you stream all the TV and movies available on the web thru the 100" flat screen hanging on your wall.

Key Features
11.6" HD Widescreen CineCrystal™ LED-backlit Display
Intel® Celeron® Processor 1007U(1.5GHz, 2MB L3 cache)
Google Chrome Operating System
16GB SSD Drive
2GB DDR3 Memory
Intel® HD Graphicswith 128MB of dedicated system memory
<b>802.11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN</b>
Built-in HD Webcam
Two built-in stereo speakers
3- USB 2.0 Ports
1- HDMI™ Port
Full-size Acer FineTip Keyboard
Multi-Gesture Touchpad
4-cell Li-ion Battery
3.05 lbs.| 1.38 kg(system unit only)

First, it must have wi-fi, as it sent a request to print to my desktop computer.

Second, there are a lot of schemes for printing from the Chromebook. Newer printers are equipped to do so directly. There are printers specifically created for Chromebooks. And "Classic" printers require a bit more effort.

One can load an ap into the desktop. When using the Chromebook, hitting 'print' sends the document to the desktop and it can be printed from there. I tried that twice, successfully sent the request over to the desktop (thus indicating there is wi-fi) but it was marked with an "Error". I'm sure with a little more jiggering it can be made to work.

That's what I know so far.

First, you need to realize I'm an advocate. I'm truly impressed so far.

Second,I will have to see if it will run my printer on a wi-fi connection. Good question.

Third, my friend assures me that Google has engineers or whatever are working constantly to prevent viruses. You are correct, it cannot get a virus unless the entire system gets a virus. And if that happened, Google would also have the problem of correcting it. But it's the equivalent of having your own IT person next to your computer 24/7.

Fourth, my friend says that Google has a customer support system which is superb, fast, knowledgeable, free. As I said, he has had these since they came out, has screwed around with them extensively, even has one which doesn't have a screen or keyboard but relies upon externals, and has been involved with them since they came out.

It comes loaded with basic programs, then there is the Google store with many, many, many more. My limited browsing through the store has not revealed anything with a price, but I'm sure that's the come-on for the masses. It is my impression that Google is working very hard to not leave any gaps between it and MS, but that's not to say there aren't any and they could be large. I just don't know yet. I will find the Help number and call them.

I heard a TV commercial for the "I-pad" or some such Apple device that the Chromebook didn't have wi-fi?? Which implies it has no wireless network card. That can't be correct can it?

As you describe the operating system, it must reside on the "cloud" which is a neat idea. I wonder if this means that you can't get a virus unless Google gets one.

An SSHD is what i've been wating for. No waiting for it to spool up. I think you meant to say 4GB of ram instead of "MB".

I'd ask about security when you say the data is stored in the cloud but I would not understand it. I'd have to place my trust in Google or not enter anything I consider sensitive. That's just me.

What about programs for it? I've heard Google has an online office suite, are there other programs you plan to use?

So if your OS is online I assume you cant run any programs unless you're connected? That might be a problem for people with crappy internet.

Thanks again for the report, my netbook is starting to have issues.
