Now, with the ever evolving nature of rapid prototyping, and net centric technology transfer, I expect to see some dude (or dude-ette) youtube their version of your imagining in scary short order.

At the time, the article I read specifically cited the 32 foot (10 m) one half scale, &lt;a href=&quot;http://publicintelligence.net/darpa-wants-to-make-500-million-space-based-telescope/&quot; rel=&quot;nofollow&quot;&gt;Phase 3&lt;/a&gt; technology demonstrator, as a less expensive, more powerful, near term replacement for JWST. 

That was probably just political hot air, since the DARPA - MOIRE would have, at the time, just barely got past it&#039;s &lt;a href=&quot;http://www.shephardmedia.com/news/digital-battlespace/moire-completes-pdr/&quot; rel=&quot;nofollow&quot;&gt;Preliminary Design Review&lt;/a&gt; .
