(The fact that it was a diffracting lens, and not a reflector went right over my head) At the time, the article I read specifically cited the 32 foot (10 m) one half scale, <a href="http://publicintelligence.net/darpa-wants-to-make-500-million-space-based-telescope/" rel="nofollow">Phase 3</a> technology demonstrator, as a less expensive, more powerful, near term replacement for JWST. That was probably just political hot air, since the DARPA - MOIRE would have, at the time, just barely got past it's <a href="http://www.shephardmedia.com/news/digital-battlespace/moire-completes-pdr/" rel="nofollow">Preliminary Design Review</a> . Still, if it works, it is fantastic technology. Sure would be nice to see a few of these built as planet hunters.
