I got a widescreen a few years ago, and it works just fine, so I stopped paying attention to the tech.
When I was at Fry’s this week to get some printing ink, I passed a display with a new flatscreen TV. It caught my attention because it was curved, not flat. What really caught my attention was when I got close. This high-def TV, playing gorgeous scenes, was less than a quarter of an inch thick. From the edge, it was literally only a piece of curved glass, like an uninstalled windshield. There was a thick section made of plastic stuck to the lower middle of the back, containing the works and connectors and such, but the image was playing on that windshield. Amazing.
