Anyway, all i could find regarding DD finances is the term “multi-million dollar.” This stated, and with the “cast” raking in approx. $100.000 a year, the franchise is likely at least twice that. Still, 300 thou is a pretty big take, for bad hair and crude manners. Talent, as well, may be called into question.

The A&E reality list certainly doesn’t seem to be that big. It includes all the storage wars shows that were the headliners before DD hit the scene.

I also have never seen a DD show but I have seen enough promos and quotes to get the gist. The religious right loves the scripture references and the personal freedom stuff.

The liberal equivalent would be the Showtime series Shameless. Shameless is a way better way to spend an hour but both are caricatures of right and left wing politics.

I am not saying that the networks intend for any series to have a political agenda but sometimes the public breaths life into their favorites and they evolve. Hence, it is what it becomes. I think A&E honestly wants to rein in the DD characters. The way they have chosen to do it is probably a stunt.

Anyone here remember the Elia Kazan film, “A Face in the Crowd”? It reminds me of this dust up.

Maybe they should do a remake. It was a fantastic film and it would be perfect for these times

What’s scary is the part about “billion dollar franchise empire”, or how this affair has now become a rallying point for indignant politicians, professional patriots and victimized and self-righteous culture warriors.

I’ve never seen the show and know absolutely nothing about it. But I get the impression that these bearded guys are somehow being sold to us as, or are meant to represent, The Real America. (As opposed to those people who prefer to watch PBS.)

The Duck Dynasty issue is strictly between the TV players, A&E and the Ratings to follow. With Duck Dynasty heading a billion dollar franchise empire, I really don’t think any of them are all that worried about. In fact, this scheme — for that’s what it truly is — might even be a polling test for A&E to determine how far they can push their public. Stating any of the cast members did anything at all that was not toeing the A&E morals-line is to say that A&E has no idea what is being placed on the air in their name.
