"The Best Years of Our Lives" was very well written and very well performed.

Generally speaking, March was an amazingly affable performer. His characters were generally common-folk, as though you might like sitting and chatting with him in a bar or coffee shop.

I do prefer his comedies, as with "I Married a Witch" and "Nothing Sacred." Didn't much care for his portrayal of Rear Admiral Tarrant in "The Bridges at Toko-Ri." He seemed to get far too anti-war philosophical for a career warrior, and far too vocal about it on the bridge of a war ship. Unrealistic.

"Death Takes a Holiday" was a hoot-n-a-half, as my mother would say.

For drama, his "Death of a Salesman," "A Star Is Born" and "The Eagle and the Hawk" hit all the right marks.

Fredrick March is an all time favorite of mine. He made this one work imo.

Dana Andrews was okay but he pales in comparison to March.

I thought the guy who played the vet who lost his hands was a bad actor and probably got the part to add realism to the role in a time when special effects were primitive. He was a vet who lost his hands in a training accident, For years I thought he lost them in combat but not so, (not to imply his loss was was any less). He had a mini-career playing disabled vets in several post war films.
