Even Sam Spade once called an automatic a revolver. Nowadays, the audience is more sophisticated about firearms, even grade school kids know how to chamber a round.

I was debating between .38 and .45, but I'm pretty sure our gruff Postal Inspector Al Goddard said .38, in "Appointment with Danger" (1951). Guess I'll have to watch it again.

"The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together."

Kid, I've flown from one side of this galaxy to the other, and I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen anything to make me believe that there's one all-powerful Force controlling everything. 'Cause no mystical energy field controls my destiny. It's all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense.

It seems that you do not understand my viewpoint, perhaps you did not read the reply that I gave to Robert. First of all, I agree with you in many areas of your thoughts on the way religion is being conducted these days. Perhaps if I reply to the various elements of your reply, you may understand my viewpoint better.

You said: “It is a desperate attempt to see patterns in the tea leaves by people who are afraid of death and believe they can get to heaven by kissing god’s ass.”

I do not know how you arrived at that opinion, but I understand that it is what you believe. From my perspective, “kissing god’s ass.” is impossible, simply because “that which” caused the space, mass and energy to come into existence can not be studied by any scientific method, therefore we can not know the answers to questions such as how did the space, Higgs field and energy come into existence. Naturally, we can speculate and say that that they appeared out of nothing by magic, or they were created or simply that we do not know. The scriptures say that they were created, and they name the creator “God.” Is there any scientific proof that the scriptures are not correct in that assessment, if there is no proof, then “God's creation” is as good an explanation as any other.

You said: “And science isn’t supposed to understand anything. That is the claim of religion, which has all the answers.”

Without studying science and religion, how can we tell what is right and what is not.

There is a simple explanation of the Higgs field At the following site:

http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Higgs_field

From the above web site: “The Higgs Field is an invisible energy field that exists everywhere in the universe.” “If the Higgs field did not exist, particles would not have the mass required to attract one another, and would simply float around freely at light-speed.”

The Eglish word “earth,” has a different meaning than the capitalized word “Earth.” If the traslation is accurate from the original language, then the word “earth,” at the time, was the best possible word to use for explaining the origin or genesis of mass.

I can not comprehend how “desperation” could be coupled to the comparison of words and the concepts that they contain, can you clarify that to me? Regardles of what has gone through or stayed in my head, I do agree that we on this planet have very little importance in the universal scheme of things, the planet and the whole solarsystem could disappear and it would not make much difference to the rest of the universe.

You said: “The universe is not a conspiracy theory. It doesn’t have to mean anything.”

If the universe does not mean anything, why do scientist study it?

Don't worry about harsh words or insults: (as the comedian said;) I have been insulted by better people than you:-)
The insults may irritate me, but only from the perspective that the person insulting me does not understand or does not want to understand what I am saying. I'm sorry that you have received such a negative impression of people that try to understand the world around them by reading a book that was written long ago. I am certain that most of those people do not mean any harm by their beliefs, there are some angry elements in some radical groups that believe that their way is the only way and their way should be enforced by any means possible. Hopefully, that kind of mentality will always remain in the minority.

As far as the concept of “father” in the sriptures; I think that it is misunderstood by most people that read the Bible. Father in the biological sense is the one that initiates the growth of a child, but the same concept can be applied to the initiation of the growth of the universe. At least in my opinion.

If you actually read it, you might find that I did say "learn from history," just not so plainly.

...and still, the coincidence I mentioned remains the only coincidence you'll ever truly find in this particular thread of thought. Humanity, and its antiquated need for some kind of religion, an explanation for death and the hope for everlasting life. The idea seems quite universal, simply because we all quite die.

Cheers.
