The problem is with the anti-theist movement. With their incessant and mostly over the top mockery of the religious, it's clear to me their need to feel superior shows just how emotionally insecure they are. Podrock is an example how opposition to creationism can be expressed in a reasonable and thoughtful manner.

This is the age of the internet. I think the creationists will whither away. I wish I could say the same about the other group.

that our Lord would confuse his children by using some other-worldly time frame than what we are familiar with does not conform with God being a kind, just and righteous Lord.

Believing this is grounds for excomunication

If one reads genesis from 1:1 to 1:31, from a ego, or geocentric view, then then the impression that is received is that God created the earth in six days and rested on the seventh.
I do not know where the suggestion has come from that the Lords day is like thousand of earth years.
By putting those two bits of information together we get 6000 years and then there is the seventh day that adds to the equation.

If you understand the information from a different perspective then you will come to a different conclusion.
First of all, “genesis” deals with the origin of the universe, not the origin of the planet Earth.
Second: The word “earth” in genesis has the equivalent meaning to the modern words “Higgs field.”
Third: A volume of space that has light, contains energy, a volume of space that has absolutely no energy is dark in all wave lengths.
Fourth: Day is full of energy, the “Night” referred to in genesis represents a volume of space that contains no energy of any kind.
Fifth: In genesis, the “evening” and “morning” refers to a first instance of a cyclic decreasing and then increasing of the energy, or light, content of the universe.
In other words a day in the universe is longer than a day on Earth.
At least in my opinion.

and creationism does not factor into that.

I am a major pain in the ass when it comes to dealing with the general public about such mundane subjects as entitlement economics, child rearing, speeding, rude behavior, center of the universe thinking...and other such bullshit and blue beaver balls.

That is why I keep to myself. I keep my mouth shut, and I am convinced that my eyes will become frozen in the rolling position.

not a certain level. Do some believers have doubts? Of course, but this is considered a weakness that must be put aside.

Changing scientific beliefs are part of the search for truth. As ER commented truth is a moving target that must be constantly debated and refined.

Science and philosophy is based on a search for ultimate truth, a theory of everything. We may never find it but we will move closer while those who rely on faith are frozen in time.
