The backwards wetsuit is classic and makes it real.

Always wanted to surf (standing up) but never did. My last attempt at body board surfing in Santa Cruz I ended up like a beached flounder with my wind knocked out. I didn't mind getting rolled around under the waves when crashing, but getting the wind knocked out and eating sand did it for me.

Hope you catch the perfect ride.

Make the instructor a young, voluptuous woman with "Daddy" issues.

Turn it from surfing to learning the tango. It occurs in a dance studio in the basement of an abandoned office machine shop.

Have the "costume malfunctions" involve her outfit and not yours.

After an hour of lessons you are exhausted and she allows you to rest on pads and pillows in the back room of the studio.

Your wife and children come by to see how you are progressing and find you both asleep on the pads. Because your clothes got wet from perspiration, they are drying on racks and you are relatively naked.

Enters her father, who has come to pick her up, being afraid of her being alone with older men. He's 42 y/o, a 21 year veteran of the local police force. He explains to your wife that his daughter is a superb dancer and instructor even though she's barely 17 years old.

The cop offers your wife his service knife, and she slashes 3 of your tires before she drives off, leaving you with the cop and instructor.

The curtains are drawn and the father turns off the lights in the studio, leaving it pitch black inside. You cannot see a thing, are naked and barefoot. You hear the lock on the studio door click, and hear the key sliding on the floor towards the far wall.

That's a good start. You can take it from there, and handling the challenges of the underage instructor, her policeman father and your wife and kids is the mark of a good author. I know you'll do well, and please don't hesitate to ask for any further help you might want.

Some sentences/paragraphs are real kludges, I just couldn't get the words to flow. Also I see I got some tenses mixed up. If anything bothers you, suggestions or rewrites would be welcome.

I should have, when I lived in N California, but by the time I got there I was 37 and desperate to get a boat instead. I tried scuba once, and didn't like it, although I'm a very good swimmer and totally at home in the water.

My California boat - MacGregor 22
