An oral surgeon once told me that they don't have to worry too much about infections. The blood supply to the mouth is so great that infections are minimal. (Obviously not non-existent, but minimal.)

He said that surgeries on the feet can be a big problem, but fortunately infections as the result of oral surgeries are minimal and healing is rather fast.

Good luck. Keep the pain down, the spirits up - - - come to think of it, there's a way available to you to do both in a rather simple way! Think about it. Hint - it's a method not available to me.

I'm currently on the antibiotic Amoxicillin and the pain killer Vicodin. The post-op literature also recommended ice packs, and they seem to help. It still hurts, but it seems to be subdued somewhat What I can't tell is if its because the Vicodin is taking effect or if the inflammation is going down. I'm due for another Vic in a couple of hours, and another one around bed time, that should give me some idea how I respond to it.

As for the MSNBC, it doesn't really help the pain, it just makes me too angry to notice it.

Just FYI, my wife's a pharmacist.

You have any non-urgent questions on meds, pop them up here.

Ice packs will be your bestest friend.

I inherited indestructible teeth from my Dad's side of the family. I've got one crown, and four fillings. Unfortunately, straight teeth weren't part of the package.
