Its been a hard March. Not only have I been wandering around without any teefus, doing my Leon Spinks imitation while my mouth heals, we have also been undergoing the stress of getting a new computer.
Mm Reclus now owns a 64 bit Dell XPS 8700 Desktop, with 12GB of memory and a 1 TB hard drive running Windows 8.1. According to the spec sheet, it features a 4th generation I7-4770 processor with an 8MB cache and a 3.1 GHz processor and 1 GB of dedicated video graphics memory.
Other than the Greek prefixes indicating powers of ten, I have no idea what any of that means, or how it compares to competing systems. But she seems to be happy with it, although she complains about getting used to the new operating system.
I have inherited her old printer and monitor, so it all means a major upgrade for my own humble system. Eventually, her old machine will replace mine for email and internet activities, and my current system will be relegated to an offline, off-the-grid word processing and dedicated software platform and backup data storage for my man cave.
Thanks for the advice from you guys when we were shopping for this machine. It really came in handy.
- Physical ram limit used to be 256MB

Sounds like a nice machine

Good luck with Windows 8.

Is your laptop 8.1?

Have you installed 8.1? It's supposed to be more old fart friendly. ;)

Thanks, U2. Looks to be a free upgrade, I'll try it.
