Seen "Soldier of Orange"? Not SF, but a great flick.

Also check out his fine portrayal of Lord Vortigern in "Merlin" one of the better retellings of the Arthurian Legend, with a spectacular cast of heavyweights: Sam Neill, Isabella Rosselini, Miranda Richardson, John Geilgud, Helena Bonham Carter, and Martin Short (don't laugh, he's a great dramatic actor).

The first episode is about robots, featuring Rutger Hauer.

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die."

If you Google, "I've seen things", all but 2 first page entries are about this quote and, Tears in the rain soliloquy has it's own Wikipedia page. One of the GOAT movie quotes, IYAM. Not bad.

They say Rutger Hauer amended it and added the last line, ...lost in time...like tears in rain...

The original before Rutger changed it, "I've known adventures, seen places you people will never see, I've been Offworld and back... frontiers! I've stood on the back deck of a blinker bound for the Plutition Camps with sweat in my eyes watching the stars fight on the shoulder of Orion...I've felt wind in my hair, riding test boats off the black galaxies and seen an attack fleet burn like a match and disappear. I've seen it, felt it...!"

Certainly a high point of Rutger's motley career. I have always been a fan but he has been in a lot of turkeys. If you haven't seen "Hobo with a Shotgun", go get it and enjoy.
