And yet expect, and get, the most from the US government. Not what one would expect from a democracy, but would from an oligarchy.

Yeah, it stands to reason inherently evil people make better spies.

The problem is Right-wing spies are more easily bribed. Its that free-market philosophy, highest-bidder and all that. They're only in it for the money.

these were Democrat spies, Republican spies are usually a lot more competent. The agency competence trickles down from the Director and Democrat directors have not been so good as a rule.

It probably has something to do with the devious nature of the evil GOP and their conservative minions.

If I were, would I tell you?

Would I tell anybody?

I get the impression you guys aren't upset about my commenting on the alleged failures of our intelligence services, or even by my impatience with my own party for possibly mishandling an espionage operation. I think what really torques you around is my implication that perhaps my government is more concerned with protecting corporate trade secrets than it is in protecting its citizens' privacy or security from foreign attack.

To put it another way, I'm perfectly willing to give up some of my privacy if it means I am being protected from terrorists or foreign attack. But if big corporations are too cheap or too lazy to exercise proper precautions in protecting purely commercial secrets, why should my national security take a back seat to their needs?

And if you think my quote of Mitt Romney's smarmy campaign remark is a snarky reference to my conviction that conservatives are much more concerned about protecting the interests, rights and freedoms of businesses (and businessmen) than those of people...then you are absolutely right.

Hypocrisy is hand and glove with spying regardless of who is doing it. We do it to them and they do it to us, friends and enemies. You can wax on about the morality, but the idea is not to get caught. Just because we may be guilty of the same thing doesn't mean that we are compelled to let them do it to us. Our perceived excesses are a different issue.

As for their stupidity, I try to never underestimate our ability to sometimes come off as keystone cops but it is also possible that we don't know the whole story. Feeding the enemy bogus info is not a new idea. We did it often in the Reagan years and we did it well.

It might be just as you say, but there may be a reasonable explanation for what and why the thing has been handled as it has been. Since it involves national security we will never know. :)
