The US has a HUGE military. The US listens in on every electronic transmission in the world. The US has 12 or 14 aircraft carrier groups scattered all over the world, God knows how many nuclear submarines at billions each. Hell, we have bombers that cost billions EACH.
And the US does not have a space program worth mentioning. The North Koreans have a space program, Japan does, India does, China does, Russia does, France does, England does, but the US does not. Has to pay the Russians for transportation to the ISS.
No one threatens the US. Our borders are safe. And yet we have that military, those aircraft carriers, and NO way to get a human to the ISS.
We do have some telescopes in the works, depending on budget considerations. Those are nice. And we do have a monopoly on Moon rocks and some Mars rovers. And we’ve spent less on those Mars rovers than on a bomber, or submarine. The people we’re fighting don’t have a single bomber, submarine or aircraft carrier. And we aren’t winning. So what good are they?
But we don’t have enough money for a space program. Something is seriously screwed up.

It's a kind of global settling . . .
