Very often the answer to "you don't respect me" is "what's to respect?"

Women are people, men are people, there is much more in common than not. And the differences tend to complement each other more than compete.

Men are chauvanists, they appreciate and value their own advantages more than they do other people. Women do the same. It's only when one says they are better than the other there are problems.

And the reality is that each is valuable. Having had a mother who was a college professor, a wife who is a physician, a sister who was a higher level executive with the phone company and another sister who was a high paid consultant to AT&T, IBM, etc., I do not discount the abilities of women. Even though I could beat any of them at arm-wrestling.

There are a lot of things about this society and culture that I feel are unfair, and that I'm highly critical of; but I've never felt I was victimized or oppressed simply because I was a man.

Even before feminism organized itself as a political and social movement, I was very well aware of the advantages I possessed simply because I was male, and that most, if not all, of those advantages were intrinsically unjust to women. It was perfectly obvious to me and I was sympathetic to the feminist program and sensitive to its complaints, even though I did not actively campaign for their cause, or necessarily agree with all their methods or philosophy. It was their fight, not mine, and beyond a nod of support and solidarity I owed them little else. I had troubles of my own, and they seemed to be doing all right without me. Besides, I didn't need to exaggerate my "feminine side", or demonstrate how "sensitive" and "nurturing" I was just so I could get laid.

Almost all the men I know also feel this way, although I suspect that may not be a fair sampling of the male population. Most people do tend to hang out with people who feel the way they do, and that does tend to color the way you evaluate public opinion.

A group of men who feel so victimized by feminists that they are compelled to organize formally, adopting the tactics and rhetoric of those they feel are oppressing them, strikes me as being unmanly. By their own standards, these wimps are a bunch of sissies. A real man who feels oppressed by any law or custom which he feels discriminates against his gender (for example, divorce or custody statutes) can fight or demonstrate against that perceived injustice without having to plead on his fragile status as a helpless man.

Male supremacy movements are like white supremacy movements. The very act of adopting the tactics and rhetoric of their perceived enemy may appear ironic one-upmanship and clever sarcasm to them, but it only reveals the hollow and pointless character of their own argument.

Just grow a pair, gents, and this problem will go away.

But then, I'm guessing that's not much of a surprise to anyone.
