THe motives seems pretty straightforward, neat graphics and FX, a terminally adorable little kid with an engineer MOM, perhaps even a nod to feminist PC correctness. Good vibes to our noble corporate citizen, GE.
But a new version of the ad has recently appeared. Identical to the one above, but now its her DAD that does wonderful things for GE, instead.
The question is, why? What’s the hidden subtext here? How does it help their commercial agenda, or is something else going on? Some sinister gender politics thing, or maybe an attempt at equivalence? Or have they just succeeded in getting me to thinking about GE and maybe they figure now I’ll rush out and buy one of their products.
Commercials have been getting quite sophisticated lately, employing all sorts of psychological tricks to get their message over, but I must admit I can’t figure out what they’re up to with this one.
Maybe they run the Dad version in misogynist countries?
These people give me the creeps.
