We outspend the rest of the world combined in military spending, and most of "the rest of the world" are our allies anyway! The legitimate military threats we now face, such as Islamic terrorism or Russian and Chinese expansionism, are not problems which can be solved with more aircraft carriers, more bomber wings, or more nukes. The primary purpose of government is to provide for the welfare of its people, not attacking foreign nations. Food stamps are more important than weapons, especially when our armories are already well-stocked and our legions are already all over the planet. Mr Cheney, and the rest of his Neocon allies are all whining now because they have suddenly realized that history will remember them as the initiators and direct cause of the political, moral, and economic decline of the United States as a world power in the 21st century. We were doing just fine until they came along, and now that they are approaching death and obsolescence, they have suddenly realized that is how they will be remembered for eternity.
