I used to travel about 28 days out of 30 all over the Western US, and that’s what I would always order for breakfast.

Never failed to be quite edible, was usually indistinguishable from place to place.

Asking someone to make such decisions before noon is just uncalled for! On the other hand, when that breakfast arrives…yum.

Western Omelet, Whole Wheat Toast w/Orange Marmalade, Hash Browns, Black Coffee.

Don’t even check the menu, because — and I have no idea why — quite often, the famous Western Omelet will not be listed. Still, any cook worth his salt — or Mrs. Dash — could do this with his eyes closed. If they screw it up, you’re in the wrong house.

There’s a crumbling diner I frequent, just for that perfect breakfast. Well, they don’t have the marmalade, but the omelet is great.

Sometimes I’m tired. I resent decisions. I went to breakfast this morning.
“Sausage and eggs, please.”
“Links or patty?”
“Links.”
“How would you like your eggs?”
“What are the choices?”
“Sunny side up, over easy, over medium, over hard, basted, poached, scrambled.”
“Over medium.”
“What kind of toast?”
“What options are there.”
“White, wheat, engish muffin, buscuit, pancake.”
And so on.
I hate that.
