Perry isn't in trouble for vetoing the budget bill, but for threatening to veto the budget if the DUI judge didn't resign.

The latter is against TX law, not the former. Still, his threat was a public one, made in the press, not some backroom blackmail maneuver. And you have to admit, the DUI judge has no business running a corruption investigation agency. Its a mere technicality no one expects will go anywhere.

The NYT and David Axelrod (political advisor to both Clinton and Obama)have both gone on record as saying Perry was unfairly hit with this trumped-up indictment, and that nothing should, or will probably, result from it. Still, its nice to see a little petard-hoisting being done to the GOP for a change.

As for that nattering nabob of negativism, Spiro Agnew, he was a low-life scumbag. That's precisely why Nixon picked him.

Agnew was busted for graft which was simply what had been done forever in Maryland. He was no better nor worse than any other politician, simply following in the Grand Tradition. Governor was a job with benefits.

Which didn't make it right. Perry was and is following in the Grand Tradition of Texas politics, and can justify his actions. That doesn't make them right.

We'll have to see if he was blatant enough to be illegal. Were I him, I'd trust a Texas jury to not only approve of his actions but to wreak havoc on those who dared to confront him.

I wouldn't get too carried away with this, Bowz. Perry was perfectly within his rights in doing what he did, and his enemies are using some pretty exaggerated legal technicalities to go after him on this. Even liberal pundits agree that Perry did nothing wrong here, there is no real case or even public opposition against him, and that he made no attempt to do anything in secret. His veto threats to that dipso Texas judge have been in the Texas press for weeks now, openly acknowledged, and are not a conspiracy by any stretch of the imagination. Not only that, she had it coming!

Either his enemies have something on Perry in reserve that they will ambush him with later, or this is just a stalling action designed to cause him inconvenience and embarrassment, but no real damage--you know, like the GOP lawsuit and impeachment threats against Obama.
