The Second Amendment August 19, 2014 11:03 pm bowser

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

Clearly, anyone who passed high school English, would know that the right to keep and bear arms is within the context of “a well regulated Militia”, not the right of every insecure, pathetic individual.  Those words were not written to be ignored.  They mean something, namely “a well regulated Militia”.

And just as clearly the Supreme Court is the law of the land, and has interpreted that differently.  That does not mean the Supreme Court is correct, what it does mean is that the Supreme Court is politically driven and often “right” only by definition.  It means that the politicians appointed to the Court have bowed to political pressure.  Again.

For example, the internment of US citizens, even native born, during WWII was sanctioned by the Supreme Court based solely on their Japanese ancestry.  Unconstitutional as all hell.  And it became the law for political, not constitutional or legal reasons.

There are lots others.  Slavery was sanctioned by the Supreme Court, separate but equal facilities, segregation in the military, forced prayer in public schools, the list is endless.

The gun lobby has succeeded in getting that which is obviously unconstitutional declared legal by the Supreme Court and that’s the law of the land.

And the first thing the gun lobby wimps scream is “Constitution!”  Pathetic folks, but that’s all they’ve got is their guns.  Maybe a knife.
