After comparing it to slavery, Stalinism, Naziism and god knows what else, after voting against it 50 odd times in Congress, after basing their entire political ideology and opposition to The Makaka Usurper, The Socialist Muslim Kenyan, suddenly, without any warning, the GOP have simply stopped talking about it. Its like it never happened.
Even the birth certificate flap had more legs than this, it took years to die down, and still occasionally flares up into sparks and flutters. The opposition to Obamacare simply vanished, overnight, like a switch being thrown. Surely, it wasn’t abandoned and the indignation merely transferred to IRS, the AP, Bengazi, Fast and Furious, the LAWSUIT, impeachment, etcetera, etcetera.
No, I don’t want to get into a shouting match with anyone on the relative merits or dangers of the ACA. What I want to know about is the tactical decision to simply stop attacking it. Who made it? Why? If nothing else, it suggests Republican talking points are not bubbling up from the grass (or toadstool) roots, but are being carefully coordinated by masterminds lurking in the wings. Its the Great Right Wing Conspiracy, ponderously coming about, like a square-rigger in a gale, after years of hating then praising the Clintons and preparing to change course yet again. Who guides, or fails to guide, events? The mighty Karl Rove has been thoroughly discredited, hasn’t he? Nobody pays any attention to Bush’s Brain any more.
And now, the latest rumblings from the Libertarian, Randian side of the GOP is that Hilary is going to be presented as the “warmonger” candidate. Could we be seeing a reversal of roles, here? The Libs are now the bloodthirsty pro-war and foreign interventionists, and the Cons are the isolationist peaceniks. It makes sense, in a perverse sense. Communism is history, there’s no one left to fight! Obama and the Left have inherited the Drone Wars, NSA eavesdropping, wiretapping, assassinations, the Security/Secrecy State, predawn commando raids, regime toppling, embarrassing airport searches, its all Obama’s fault. I could go on.
You can’t tell the players without a program.
