...except for a journalist or two. The Americans are leaving Iraq, and their regular armed forces already left. ISIS is killing Syrians (both pro- and anti-Assad), Arabs, Kurds, Christians and Shiites, and even a lot of fellow Sunnis BECAUSE the Americans are leaving. No one has "invaded their homes", they are invading everyone elses homes.

The reason they are able to do this is because we dismantled Saddam's army and our puppet botched the job of rebuilding it, so it can be argued we, the US, are ultimately responsible for ISIS.

But, but, but, but,-----

The Americans are killing everyone who doesn't go along with them, too. We expect everyone in the world to have America's best interests at heart, to forsake their way of living, their ways of adapting to their environment and support what is in effect American imperialism.

I haven't seen a reason for taking on ISIS. They are killing Americans, true, but they are killing the Americans who are killing them. On their own turf.

They aren't nice people, I'll admit. Neither are Americans. So why don't we just go home? The world will not come to an end.

ISIS isn't killing invading Americans, they're mostly killing Muslims, and mostly (but not exclusively) Shia or other non-Sunni Muslims. In fact, they're killing everyone that doesn't go along with their plan. These are not anti-imperialist freedom fighters, they're bloodthirsty religious fanatics who aren't interested in saving their country, but in establishing a whole new one all of their own.

Having said that, the almost simultaneous chant of "Something has to be done about ISIS right away." seems to suddenly be on everyone's lips, and I mean very suddenly, and EVERYONE's. It reminds me a lot of "WMDs", "Communist-inspired Sandinistas", and "Domino Theory". Asd much as I hate to admit it, I must confess the plot of this movie is starting to sound very familiar. Still, I trust Obama in this. Deliberately trying to whip us up to another war is just not his style, and so far, he's handling this pretty much the same way I would.

If you're looking for conspiracies, try this one on for size. The Americans are desperately trying to disentangle themselves from the Middle East, which, as you point out, is the major raison d'etre for Jihadis. Without us there, they are essentially out of work. We are their mission statement. I don't think we're looking for an excuse to stay, I think they're doing everything they can to keep us from leaving.
