One cannot believe a word coming out of the Pentagon. And most especially one cannot believe that any American airplane has not violated Chinese airspace.

Not only that, if a Chinese surveillance airplane were operating 12 miles off an American coast, the screams of "provocation" would be heard 'round the world.

mcfly called it. If you go near a beehive, you will get buzzed. A bit closer, you will get attacked. If you go away, you will be left alone. That's the way it goes.

As long as we're outside of that, we have every right to be there, and they have no right to try and intimidate us into moving further out.

In fact, an attempt to forcibly expand their boundary past the 12 NM limit should be considered an act of war, even if no one else claims that part of the sea. The sea frontier is an admittedly arbitrary limit, but exceptions to it should be agreed upon by mutual treaty, not by bullying. Any attempt to re-define it by force is an act of aggression, and should be treated as such. In fact, we should now start aggressively patrolling that frontier, with armed escorts, right up to the 12 mile limit, just to show we mean business. Any other response would only be met by more intimidation and more bullying.
