The question is, do they lie out of sheer personal self-interest, or are they part of some sinister conspiracy to take over the world?

If this were the only story about political lies that was out there this month.

To summarize: six previous investigations, bi-partisan report, GOP-led committee, Friday Night holiday week burial release, followed by only the briefest of mentions in the dog-drool media.

I must confess, that the administration did get it wrong that, although there was indeed a demonstration against the anti-Muslim video there that night, there was also an organized terrorist attack later. But can you really blame them for getting it wrong, especially after they were told that by the CIA? There were 23 other anti-video demonstrations at US embassies around Europe, Africa and Asia going on at the same time Libya was hit. Fog of war, yes. Smoking gun, no.

The GOP could have made some real points on this if they had soberly concentrated on potential incompetence, lack of preparedness, poor intelligence, possible mismanagement, and a variety of other legitimate criticisms that could have been brought up relating to this incident. After all, responsible, respectful, bi-partisan investigative scrutiny following the 9/11/01 attack led to real improvements in our anti-terrorist procedures.

Instead, as they invariably do, after Benghazi the Right went after the Obama conspiracy theory. That’s why nobody takes them seriously any more. Not about anything.
