There are now seventeen officially declared candidates for the Republican nomination for President of the USA. And its 15 months before the election! Surely, three quarters of them don’t have even the slightest chance of getting the nomination.
What’s going on? This must be an expensive process, (although with this crowd, money appears to be the least of their worries). Surely its not doing the party any good, it can only breed confusion and a dissipation of resources. Not to mention, it’s providing the Democrats with even more evidence of the instability and division within the GOP, not to mention an endless bounty of ammunition for critics, pundits, and late-night talk show hosts. And its hard to concentrate on the Benghazi hearings when there are so many clowns piling out of the circus car.
There’s something going on here I’m missing. What is their motivation? Publicity? A shot in the dark in the hope a front-runner commits a blunder, or drops out for any reason? Are they really running for Vice President? Are they just hoping for campaign funding they can divert for other purposes?
Meanwhile, the Democrats have the opposite problem. They don’t have enough candidates. If Hillary drops out of the race for any reason or has some other setback, there are no credible replacements ready to step into her sensible shoes.
Bernie Sanders? Maybe America is ready for a Socialist President, after all, they elected a Muslim Kenyan Socialist twice! But Bernie? If we really are going to go bolshie, why mess around with Mr Nice Guy, go to Liz Warren, who can really kick ass and take names.
It must be an unforeseen consequence of Obamacare, or maybe Global Warming.
