I’ve been meaning to post about the situation at the Gold King Mine in southwestern Colorado. You may have seen it on the news, how an EPA contractor accidently released a couple of millions of gallons of nasty mine water into a local creek.
But I’ve been too damn busy to pull out all the USGS papers and familiarize myself with this particular mine. Fortunately, another geologist has taken the time to give an excellent overview of the mine system and speculates on the causes of the disaster. Despite getting a bit political at the end, I found it to be an excellent analysis of the situation.
Disclaimer: I have consulted for EPA contractors in mine water removal.
