Even worse, they are afraid that their problems may be just the tide of history turning, and that not only is there nothing they can do about it, but that there's nothing anyone can do about it. They've smugly congratulated themselves for years on their own self-righteousness, civic virtue and other sterling qualities, and now they are starting to see that no one has been keeping score, and the team captain has run off with their sweetheart. They're not just scared, they're angry, they're ignorant and they're desperate. And they need to hate. They need a scapegoat, they need an enemy, they need a Jew they can blame it all on. Fascism is the dictatorship of the middle class. It does not insist that everyone under their umbrella agree with everything they believe in. The right-wing expects everyone to have exactly the same agenda. Just like the Brown Shirts of pre-WWII Germany, they do not tolerate any straying from the party line. That makes it easier for them to see plots and enemies, and therefore easier to support a Limbaugh.
