I had just heard of this recently and was quite fascinated with it, since I (and a few other women)share the planet with some guys...;)

After a lengthy thought process this past week, I think *emasculated men* is an anti feminism movement. It exists simply because Feminism is a threat to them.

She's exploring the world of MRAs, "Men's Rights Activists". They're the ones with the beef against women, in the news recently for expressing their "philosophy" through some very nasty stalking and online harrassment of female gaming bloggers who dared to speak out against misogyny, thereby inviting a tsunami of that very thing.

I'd prefer to think that Jody's shining a spotlight on cockroaches.

I had mine until I was 35.

Male traits are passed down from father to son, brother to brother and simple social interaction. My father was a sensitive but he acted the part of alpha when he needed to. I got both his traits but ended up more on the side of sensitivity.

When you think about it, problems with bullying were resolved after school behind the back stop. You didn't run for counseling, kill yourself, or bring a gun to school. You dealt with it or lived with it.

There are many more examples when it comes to lack of role models.

Are men "emasculated" because women vote, work, have professional sports teams, open their own doors, become doctors, lawyers, judges, etc.? Of course not.

Simply because men share power these days does not mean they are "emasculated". I don't think they are, and will answer by objecting to your premise.

I barely remember him.

My first stepfather came a couple of years later, and lasted a few years, but he played very little influence in my life. My mother refused to let him discipline me, even when I clearly deserved it. Although he never treated me badly, we never bonded, either. He was just that guy who lived with us.

My second stepfather came when I was almost an adult, we got along fine, and I eventually came to love him dearly, but he probably had little influence on my character development. Like my first stepfather, my mother did not allow him to take any active role in disciplining me.

I partially agree with your conclusions. I was definitely a little Cuban Momma's boy, until I came back from the Navy. You would recognize the type immediately, think: Marco Rubio, baby-face and all. But I think the "feminist single mother" stereotype is so rare, at least in my generation, that it is hardly a factor. My own mother was not a Marlo Thomas/Mary Tyler Moore career girl, she went into the lower end pink-collar work force because she had no choice, it was brutal economic necessity, not a political or social decision. She was not a cheerful go-getter, she was a grimly determined Worker, with a capital W. It had a totally dominating, even devastating, effect on her life, aging her before her time, and a profound influence on mine. No matter what I did for a living, or how much education I had, or how much money I had in the bank, I always thought of myself as working class, not middle class.

I've seen it time and time again, boys turn out to be pussies because there is no male influence in their lives. Sorry to be blunt but that's just the way it is.

There are valid religious (which for some folks is the only source of and reason for morality) objections to abortion. I personally believe they are totally wrong-headed, but other folks' religions must be respected, regardless how ridiculous they are. Its like forcing women to wear a headscarf in public because Allah requires it. It is not right to force a woman to display her hair if she objects to it for religious reasons. But neither is it right to force all women to cover themselves because your religion says so. If you are opposed to contraception or abortion, fine, you have every right not to practice them. But don't presume to foist your religion on anyone else. We are obliged to tolerate your tribal superstitions, not practice them.

I am an atheist, but when I go into a church, I take off my cap as a sign of respect. I don't need a god to teach me good manners.

I asked and I received. I had no idea. My thoughts about the subject were kindler and gentler.

Grab 'em literally by the nuts, and everything else follows.

I raised "cuckservative" separately, because in the general population of male supremacists/separatists/PUAs, it's the misogyny that's the thing. It's quite true that the Venn diagram of their "social justice warriors" and "feminazis" overlaps the set of right wing authoritarians, but I think causality flows from misogyny to political affinity.

Another google I should've mentioned is "gamergate", which is all about these guys in action. They got their knickers in a knot over some posts by a female blogger specializing in gaming, and they hit her with every nasty trick in the Internet troll's handbook, plus a few new nasty innovations, from death and rape threats to publishing personal information including pictures and addresses. They're collectively one of the nastiest pieces of work on the Net.

But "cuckservative", like I said, is in a category by itself, because it appears to have come from the partisan political crowd, rather than the misogyny faction. These are the guardians of ideological purity who as we know just love to invent the most vile and sometimes downright hair-raising insults to attack their own. And in cuckservative they've outdone themselves, for the brutal mixture of racism and sexuality and nationalism. It's the trifecta of demagogic button-pushing, a Goebellian masterpiece.

Don’t get me wrong, these are valid moral and religious positions which do deserve respect and a fair hearing
