<description>Like when the immune system attacks its own body, or when a patient develops an allergy to his own proteins.

Even doctrinaire Democrats pretty much agree GWB didn&#039;t cause 9/11, and that John McCain was indeed a genuine war hero. But these issues have now become talking points in internal Republican warfare.

The cultivation of extreme Right wing fanaticism, call it the Tea Party, Limbaughism, the FOX cannibal galaxy, the Freedom Caucus, or whatever, is starting to have an effect contrary to what it was designed for, but which should be no surprise. The Republicans have created and nurtured a Frankenstein monster, a lynch mob that could do their dirty work for them and allow the one-percenters to remain aloof and claim innocence. Now, the monster is out of control and turning on its own creators.

I was slow picking up on this, but it finally became clear to me when Obama was first attacked as a Muslim, Socialist, and a Kenyan. No, it wasn&#039;t simply the ridiculous attacks that was the giveaway, there is no shortage of boorish partisan dirty tricks and sheer bad taste in either party. The real tip-off was when Republican leaders, supposedly sober, responsible men, heard the birther nonsense and said nothing and did nothing to stop it. The President is called a liar to his face by a legislator while addressing Congress, and what do the grown-ups in the GOP do? They clear their throats, fumble with their shoelaces and look the other way. And right here on the Zone, their supporters made no effort to concede that maybe things were going too far, that they were getting out of hand. Well, the chickens have come home to roost. Now, we not only have a Frankenstein monster on the loose, he&#039;s getting ready to breed.
