Didn’t make a lot of sense, but it was one of those “mankind needs to come together” films made during the cold war to try to increase perspective. Maybe we need more films like this again, in our divided world.

Nope, Rob, that wasn’t ER. I won’t embarrass the perpetrator further by naming him, because I think he expressed contrition. But I remember the incident well, and it was definitely not ER.

To paraphrase, you said Tom was a pathetic unemployed loser and his wife (with her challenges) had to work to support him.

That was just part of it. It was years ago but it stuck in my head.
