The global warming conspiracy has even snared Phil Plait! November 3, 2015 10:07 am Robert

Phil Plait The Bad Astronomy Guy has weighed in on the reaction of denialists to the recent release of NASA’s Antarctic ice study that seems to show a slight gain in ice mass:

Of course, the usual suspects in the global warming–denying noise machine are jumping all over this study, claiming triumph … but, as usual, they obfuscate, they cherry-pick, and they ignore evidence that contradicts their claims that everything is rolling along just fine.

Is Antarctica Gaining or Losing Ice? Hint: Losing.

I’d add to Phil’s list the reasons I felt compelled to post on Mysteries of the Multiverse: Advancing a conspiracy theory (differential funding) to discredit a strong scientific conclusion; and grasping at anomalies in the data in the desperate hope that one anomaly has the power to invalidate an overwhelming mass of data to the contrary.

We’ve been here before, of course. To paraphrase: “Billions for Mars exploration, but not one penny for Cydonia! It’s a conspiracy fer sure!”.
