I couldn't agree more, Frank. Our little Bella means the world to us. I'm still amazed at how smart she is and how well she listens. She's pretty laid back until, like you say, someone comes to the door...then we have a Tasmanian Devil on our hands.

I see you own a Shih Tzu. I have two (Gatsby and Max) that I love dearly.

they both have alergies that require special care and special food. They both will puke on the floor with the slightest variance in diet and they bark incessantly at anyone who comes near our door. They are house trained but don't think for a minute they are going to burst their bladder waiting on you to let them out when they need to go. And, the grooming nearly bankrupts me

Other than that they are the greatest breed alive. :)

As you say, what can we expect? They're under no obligation to include even the slightest shred of reality.

The show *is* however, shot largely in and around my hometown, Calgary...much to the financial thrill of my old filmmaking buddies.

Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher: A Political Marriage.

Thing is, I like Reagan in a way that's somewhat similar to the way I like Obama. I haven't always agreed with either of them, but they're difficult to dislike on a personal level--Obama, imho, perhaps moreso, but that's neither here nor there. I read the book hoping to learn more about Thatcher, whom I genuinely disliked and with whom I did not want to spend a entire book. Did it make her seem more human? Arguably, yes...but I always knew she was human, that wasn't the problem.

I fell away from reading general biographies years ago, and tend toward works that are more limited in scope. As an example, The Foreign Policy of Lyndon B. Johnson: The United States and the World, 1963 - 1969...but what made it a truly great learning experience was reading it simultaneously with Ho Chi Mihn by William Duiker (Hey, if one book can kick the door open, two can take a wall down.)

Living as I do just a few minutes from Dixon Illinois, I can visit``

sorry, cutting things short, severe storms here

Captain's Log, supplemental
Damn storms, I hate 'em. We didn't get a tornado siren, but a thunderclap from some close lightning sent my little dog scurrying for a bed to hide under. Shi Tzu's are often stunningly courageous, but when your nose is 6 inches off the ground anything that might lead to even a minor amount of flooding is bad news indeed.

Anywho, living close to Dixon Illinois, I can visit the Reagan boyhood home, and see two statues of the man in the space of a few blocks. If you expand that search area just a bit, you can include a statue of Lincoln, hidden away in a stand of trees...so while you're in Dixon at least, you're in the "Land of Reagan."

<p>Spend some time reading Reagan's own writings.</p>

Several books collecting them are available. Then decide for yourself how smart he was.

I can put a finer point on the reason I am not an O'Reilly fan. As you know he was host of a tabloid TV show before his current gig. In my opinion everything he does is tabloidesque. He is pompous, arrogant, and seems desperate to be the smartest guy in the room. There is nothing scholarly about him.

Who he chose to interview for his book is, for the most part, unimportant to me, but I have to agree that failing to attempt to interview Hinkley is ridiculous. He refers to Hinkley as evil. Hinkley is bat shit crazy, not evil. An interview minght have clarified that, or probably not. :)

As for a couple of the observations in the book:

Promiscuity - I think that a wide majority of the men of his generation were promiscuous. The double standard reigned supreme.

Some days he couldn't work, when he could work he was brilliant - If you don't want this, do not elect men over 70.

His intelligence was at best average - I don't know but many disagree and say he was extremely sharp and well read.

This is the best thing I read:

<a href="http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/11/09/why-bill-o-reilly-is-wrong-about-reagan.html" rel="nofollow">The Daily Beast </a>

If you haven't already read it I think you will like it.

O'Reilly has said the same thing about his illness in first term. His hearing was bad also.

If you are watching Fargo (probably the best series since Breaking Bad), you saw Reagan portrayed recently in a very opinionated light.

The cast him as an air head showing early signs of Alzheimer in his first campaign for POTUS.

I did not appreciate that but the series is still entertaining and what else can we expect from Show Biz. :)

I agree, and as per my P.S. I find it hard to believe that O'Reilly could write a book without the color of opinion.

Let me know if you like it. I might read it yet.

There is just something about him that reeks of snake oil. I agree with him sometimes, but I usually don't care for his pitch.
