It’s interesting that the guy who wants to register Muslims and close mosques is back up in the polls…

64 percent of Americans in the poll, taken after the Paris attacks, agree that “Islam is an inherently peaceful religion, but there are some who twist its teachings to justify violence.” That includes 61 percent of Republicans in the poll, and 76 percent of Democrats.

Since 1992, the U.S. has accepted around 2 million Muslim immigrants, a number that has increased in annual rate over the years despite attacks on the U.S. There are still five times as many anti-Semitic hate crimes in the U.S. as there are anti-Muslim ones. Obviously as a nation we don’t feel that Muslims in general are a threat.

The Democrats are running on “our opponents are racists” again this year. This flap is just part of it.

ISIS is looking for some sort of outcome. I doubt that they want open warfare with themselves on one side and the US, Russia, China, France, Germany and probably at least a dozen other countries on the other.

It seems more likely that what they’re seeking is a divide–a mutual sense of rejection between the Muslim and the non-Muslim worlds…with themselves ruling the Islamic sphere, of course.

They *want* us to hate all of Islam, and to move against Muslims here. They want Islam isolated from the temptations of western culture, so they can build their iron-fisted caliphate without being undermined by western ideas, conveyed by literature, movies or music.

They want exactly what so many conservatives want to give them–a west hostile to Islam.

The people being considered are already safe in refugee locations overseas. None of them are under imminent threat. For God’s sake, think for a change. You can’t be touting a nearly two-year vetting process as an argument for your position at the same time that you’re talking about people fleeing imminent danger to their lives.

It’s fascinating how “oppose the Democrats” has come to be defined as “exactly what ISIS wants.” This is raw politics, and nothing else.

When Carson compares the refugees to Rabid dogs he is appealing to the worst in your party…

And yes the slim majority of americans have bought the bullshit, but that doesn’t mean its the right thing to do, it doesn’t mean that is a sane view of reality, and short term fears should not set our policy.

If you honestly think that slamming the door in the faces of those running away from ISIS is the american thing to do then drop the “home of the brave” shtick – it isn’t so much a case of “let them in or be evil”, it is a case of “let them in or admit all the things the country supposedly stands for is a contemptible lie”- and the demagogues that whipped people up against the refugees ARE evil.

If you think this isn’t exactly what ISIS wanted then you are a blind fool. The demagogues simply don’t care.

Those are the issues you have steadfastly avoided addressing because you know what I am saying is right… that is why you hide behind poll numbers and ‘see democrats did it too’…

It’s entirely possible that Americans of all kinds like the idea of an American government that puts their interests first–for a change. The other questions in the poll show that this isn’t about Muslims in general.

You are aware enough to recognize that the GOP DOES have a serous issue with the racism in its ranks… and support for banning the refugees IS largly rooted in bigotry- “Well, maybe we can let the good CHRISTIAN ones in…”

But the reason your candidates have done a 180 on this issue is far more venal than just simple bigotry… it is a calculated move to appeal to the worst part of the GOP voting block.

My position never changed TB… You can say the democratic candidates are only for letting the refugees in because it somehow advances their poll numbers (though you have not come up with a convincing argument for how it does)… but you know that politics aside, offering refuge to those people is the moral thing to do, it is the just thing to do, and it is the American thing to do…

That is why you have been so uncomfortable dealing with the facts of the issue and keep trying to shift the argument to “the democrats are playing politics”.

Then you posted a picture of a drowned boy, as if letting Syrian refugees into the U.S. without delay would make any difference to the two thousand people who have drowned trying to cross the Mediterranean.

You kept trying to make the argument about 2 bad actors out of tens of thousands of legitimate refugees in a different refugee crisis… you dont get to do that without being forced to acknowledge that the real face of the refugees is that of desperate people willing to risk their lives to escape creatures like ISIS…

You may want to avoid recognizing the humanity of these people, don’t expect me to play along.
