CHUCK TODD (HOST): Now let’s take a look at the big picture here. There’s been nearly 785,000 refugees who have been admitted to the United States since 9/11. Only about a dozen — roughly one one thousandths of 1 percent — have been arrested or removed from the U.S. due to terrorism concerns. None of those folks removed were Syrian, by the way. The fact is, it’s not easy to get into America via the refugee process. Let me walk you through how this works just with Syrians. The United Nations has referred just over 23,000 Syrian refugees to the United States. Of those 23,000, 7,000 of them were thought to be worthy enough to be interviewed by the Department of Homeland Security. By the way, they were interviewed outside the United States. And of those 7,000, just 2,165 were accepted into the United States. Now, here’s the issue. The real vulnerability that U.S. lawmakers might want to look into is not the refugee process, it’s actually those traveling to the U.S. on visas or with European passports. Let me explain. The visa waiver program allows passport holders of 38 countries who meet certain requirements to travel to the United States without a visa, without like a next level of vetting, that includes France, by the way, and many other European Union countries. So what does this mean? It’s important to remember all 19 September 11th hijackers traveled to the United States on some form of a visa. None of them were refugees. It’s this visa program that needs to be looked into by Congress.

And yes, the GOP has a real and serious racism issue- you know it as well as I do…

I had 10,000 people in the room yesterday, 10,000 people, and this guy started screaming by himself and they — I don’t know, rough up, he should have been — maybe he should have been roughed up because it was absolutely disgusting what he was doing. This was not handled the way Bernie Sanders handled his problem, I will tell you, but I have a lot of fans and they were not happy about it. And this was a very obnoxious guy, who was a troublemaker, was looking to make trouble, but I didn’t get to see the event.

You didn’t know that until I told you, and you have no way to deal with it. Fine. You basically stopped paying attention to my responses a while ago anyway. You’re not thinking this through, or looking at the facts. You’re running on pure emotion.

What’s really hilarious is being lectured on the Republican “drooling trog” right-wing racists, bigots, and religious fundamentalists, telling us about how they are the ruination of America, and then watching liberals breaking their backs trying to import tens of thousands of people from nations of religious fundamentalists who have pretty much the same tolerant views as a Klansman does. Worse, in some areas.

Meanwhile, the Trog Base has Trump, Carson, Cruz and Rubio as the top four picks so far. Damn racists.

The other thing goes back many years to when somebody figured out you could put HTML into the subject line. Seeing it could get out of control, we talked about it briefly and said no.

But the presence of the featured image thing sure muddies the water, doesn’t it? They’re not the same, but it does seem a bit arbitrary when you have to distinguish between root and reply. Maybe neither one should be allowed? I’d rather not go that way; I was actually hoping to popularize featured images to spice up the board a bit. But I still worry about a proliferation of HTML in the subject lines.

I was torn about hiding the image, and making you feel like you’d violated a rule was one consequence I wanted to avoid. That’s a poor way to repay your enthusiastic support. I’m sorry to put a damper on something that was meant well.

Do you think punishing the refugees for the actions of the people they are trying to escape is the just and american thing to do?

So far less than a dozen or so refugees out of over 750,000 have been arrested for terrorist activities… is that justification to all of a sudden slam the door on refugees now?

You can bitch about people pointing out that your party is populated by bigots, but you cannot listen to Trump and see the support he gets in your party and NOT realize the GOP has a serious problem with the bigots in its ranks…

Trump’s blatantly racist misogynistic and intolerant rhetoric may play well with the GOP base, but it really pisses off the sane people in america, and currently even BERNIE SANDERS would win against Trump… Let that sink in…

I edited the comment to move the graphic inside, because I’m pretty sure that once upon a time we a rule that images in subject lines were gauche or something. I considered recusing myself to wait for podrock to rule, since it was a message to me, but that would be a transparent ploy to leave it up as long as possible.

I’d point out that those three refugees were the cause of the Obama administration halting the Iraqi program for six months. I did send an e-mail to the author.

Seems like the idea of pausing a refugee program to tighten security not being “sane” or the “American thing to do” is a relatively recent epiphany for Obama. Or maybe Obama was heading for an election back then and he was more concerned about voter opinions than he is now.

Sidebar: The Navy article mentions that security checks were expanded, and 57,000 refugees already in the U.S. were “revetted.” I assume this means they were being tracked?
