They, and the people they appeal to, have finally started to come to terms that they have been lied to, conned, taken for a ride, betrayed. All their lives, they have been told that if they kept their nose clean and worked hard and played by the rules
that one day they would be successful businessmen, with workers of their own to exploit; or at least, their children would be.

Now they know that’s not going to happen, and they’re pissed. They need to blame it on somebody, because they can’t bring themselves to admit that they have been betrayed and lied to by precisely those people they wished to emulate, the people they wished to become.

Sure, the world has changed, the country has changed, history happened and the economy has evolved away from the golden post-war era when America owned everything and could always get its way. But these people have been left behind and its too late for them, or their kids. And the ship is sinking around them.

And the people they followed, those whose lives they envied, the ones who lied to them, they got to the lifeboats first and they’re not looking back.

Its happened before, in Germany right after World War I. That’s why the rabble, and the demagogues who manipulate them, all sound so familiar.

And that’s why they hate Obama so much. They can’t even elect one of their own as President any more.

I think it was really nice of conservatives to delay the rebellion til after President Obama’s second term. Damn sporting, really.

None of them would seriously inconvenience the Democratic agenda, or would be likely to beat a Democratic candidate (look at the poll site again and click through to the graphs).

And of course you’re baffled.

You keep trying to pound square pegs into the round holes of your worldview. I could go into a lot of detail, but I won’t.

Leave it at this: you spent years complaining about how corporate cronyism rules our politics with an iron fist, and now when they’re falling flat on their face in both parties (took the Democrats long enough to kick over their traces) you don’t even realize what it means.

I can at least understand the motivations of plutocrats and oligarchs. But I’m totally baffled and terrified, even revolted, by your revolution. I’d rather vote for a Nixon than any of these carbon units.

The financial engines and usual mechanisms that were supposed to deliver the “right” candidates to power aren’t working any more. Jeb was supposed to be able to spend his way to the nomination, and Hillary was supposed to be anointed. What’s happening instead?
