Citoyen Bloomberg January 23, 2016 4:52 pm ER

http://www.wsj.com/articles/michael-bloomberg-mulling-run-for-president-as-an-independent-1453568255

The former NYC Mayor and Ex-Republican (Now Independent) is considering joining the Presidential race as an Independent in the event Trump or Cruz wins the Republican nomination or Clinton falters and is replaced by Sanders.

A successful and popular chief executive of a metropolis that is bigger and more complex than most US States (and many foreign countries), Bloomberg is no idle threat, he is a proven, competent leader and could probably appeal to both moderate Republicans and conservative Democrats. Even if he cannot win election to the Presidency, as a third party candidate he could certainly affect the outcome of the race.

Mr Bloomberg is a multi-millionaire, and is said to be ready to commit his own funds to finance the campaign. Although a Bloomberg candidacy might be politically viable, it does face many practical obstacles. Still, it highlights the continuing unraveling of the American political system.

This election year is certainly full of surprises.
