http://gizmodo.com/flint-mayor-water-still-showing-lead-levels-beyond-wha-1756040997

Some filters, specifically gravity-fed ones certified by the National Sanitation Foundation, are able to remove reasonable amounts of lead from drinking water, up to about 150 parts per billion. What Flint is seeing, however, are some levels higher than 150 parts per billion—in other words, what can safely be removed by those filters. Some tests showed levels as high as 4000 parts per billion. It’s not every home, but it is enough homes to cause an alarm.

This means that the “reliable” water source from Lake Huron is now not safe anymore due to the way the Flint River water heavily corroded the city’s pipes.

Federal “safe” lead level is 15 ppb.

According to updates on TV (this is breaking news, I first heard it less than an hour ago) the city is now suggesting citizens

1) go to the nearest fire station
and get a water testing kit there
2) collect a water sample from their home
3) return the kit to the fire station for testing
4) they will be notified by phone if their lead concentration exceeds safe levels
5) there is currently a 3 day backlog on testing
